if you haven't noticed, i don't blog very much. it could be the fact that i have nothing important to write about, or i'm just not an interesting person. i also feel that blogging should be left to the people who can actually write about things people would be interested in.
my recent version of site was for my month long journey in southern france... much easier than bulk emails to keep my friends and family informed of my activities.
seeing as i always get ridiculed for my site, here is my latest adventure. i am speaking at south by southwest this year. though it is not a panel, it is my opportunity to speak about something i believe in... web design in the university system. come stop by and see my core conversation: can .edu act like .com?

carpet sucks!
carpet sucks especially when it is the original carpet the house came with. carpet sucks when it is blue... 14 years ago.
so i decided that i would do away with 14-year-old, gray-blue carpet in my house and install laminate flooring. actually, my roommate installed most of the 950 square feet. i am suppose to do the base boards (288 inches of 5 1/2 inch high white baseboards to be exact). i haven’t finished my part yet. pictures of the process are on flickr.

the begining of sxsw

i love sxsw. i think it is a great place to meet other web designers from all over the country (and sometimes the world). ideas, concepts, examples and talk are the reason that sxsw is so great.
this being my third year, has me excited. i am a regular now. people remember my name without my nametag (like it is hard to remember dickwood). i am able to expand my "friends" group each year.
however, this year i seem to be disappointed and the conference has not even started officially yet. in a pre-conference panel, we were plagued with cell phones ringing, photographers getting right up in the panelist faces and poorly defined session descriptions. also, the annual kick! game did not happen.
even though i am having this rough start, i am not going to let it affect me completely. i am going to try the panels unplugged (sans-laptop). we will see how that goes.
