life in a boring town

pau lies in the southwest of france. it is a small city made up of smaller cities. it is very intrenched in family and values (notice i did not say family values). with this said... this place is not the best to spend a month of my life.

before you go and talk about the opportunities and cultrual differences, i want to say that i love being on this trip. everyone i have met is real nice and i am doing things that i could not at home.

my complaint (which all my problems stem from): is hours of operation. i am not a morning person, like most college students. everything is open when i get up... no problem there. however, everything closes from 12pm-2pm and then closes for the day by 8:30pm (at least near the university). even the bars close early. almost everything is closed on sundays. if i want to go out to eat dinner, i cannot do this before 7:30pm, as no one will serve you food.

i have resorted to leaving town on the weekends. this past weekend, i went to st jean de pied du port and st jean de luz (basque country). it was lots of fun. this upcoming weekend i am going to san sebastian, spain.

i will talk more about my visits later... right now i just need to bitch about the lack of things to do at night!
